Flavorking Plum ‘Bubblegum’ Smoothie with no artificial ingredients

When I heard about the Flavorking plum I just knew I had to try it! Why?

Because Flavorking plums are marketed as having “a unique ‘bubblegum’ flavour, which makes them extra special” – Adventures in Fruit!

That’s quite a claim to make and I thought it would be amazing if they did actually taste like bubblegum. So I popped into Marks & Spencer to buy some.

Taste Test

A.K.A. Do Flavourking plums actually taste like bubblegum?

I was shocked when I tried the Flavorking plums.

No joke- they actually taste like sweets. I wouldn’t say the plums tasted exactly like bubblegum but they had a very strong taste that reminded me of artificially flavoured sweets. If anything I think the taste was a little too strong for me because I can’t remember the last time I ate jelly or hardboiled sweets and I prefer more natural flavours.

Interestingly the flavour was very strong when I first bought the Flavorking plums, but when I came to eat the last of them after a week they had a milder taste! So if you buy them and don’t think the flavour is strong it might be because they are quite ripe. I don’t know for a fact the taste changes when they get riper but in my experience that’s what happened.

Overall I think they’re definitely worth a try just for the novelty value and that they would be great for kids who don’t usually like to eat fruit.

What can you make with Flavorking plums?

Since the flavour of the plums is so strong and they are very refreshing I liked to eat the plums on their own.  My second thought was to make a smoothie – A) because I love smoothies (e.g. this one or this one OR this one!!!) and B) because who doesn’t want a healthier version of a bubblegum milkshake to remind them of when they were a kid?!

Here’s my super delicious Flavorking plum bubblegum smoothie recipe with no artificial ingredients!

Those plums sound amazing – I saw them too and thought the bubblegum flavour was just a marketing ploy – bit like the cotton candy grapes that you sometimes see! Will have to go try them for myself now!
