My favourite flavour combinations that I have made so far are:

  • Almond, cashew and hazelnut butter
  • Almond butter with cinnamon and Himalayan pink salt
  • Pecan and cashew butter
  • Cashew butter and vanilla bean
  • Hazelnut, maple syrup and cacao!
  • Peanut, coconut sugar and mixed spice

The recipes are totally palm oil free and you know exactly what is going in to your jar!

Use 2 cups of nuts to make homemade nut butter

Tips on how to make super smooth homemade nut butter without breaking your blender!

It can be a bit daunting to make your own nut butter if you have never done it before. But it is actually quite easy and you will have no problem if you follow these tips.

  • Purchase nuts from a market stall – they’re usually cheaper!
  • Roast your own nuts just before blending – it helps to release the oils and make them blend smoother. I have tried blending raw cashew nuts before and was unable to make them into nut butter!
  • Always use at least 2 cups of nuts. Otherwise there isn’t enough mixture to blend properly.
  • Use a powerful blender.
  • Blend the nuts on full power. I actually broke my blender once because I was trying to blend nut butter on a low speed – it was chugging away and then the motor broke!
  • Stop and scrape down the sides of the blender if some of the nut butter is getting stuck there.
  • Have patience! This is super important. It might seem like it isn’t going to blend but once it starts to go it will get smooth quite quickly.
  • If you think your blender is overheating then turn it off for 10 minutes and then start blending again.
  • Add in flavourings once all of the nuts have been blended into a smooth butter.

  2. Place all of the nuts on a baking tray and cook for 10-15 minutes. Make sure to keep checking on them so they don’t get burnt!

Hi Rachel! I’m certainly with you on this one – I go nuts for homemade nut butters! Once I made my own, I never resorted to the shop bought versions again! Thank you so much for sharing your tips and different flavour combinations. I haven’t made a ‘crossed nuts’ butter yet and you’ve inspired me to experiment with mixing different nuts. Love your beautiful blog Rachel xxx

I wish I could say I made my own all of the time but the shop bought ones are more convenient and I also get tempted when they’re on offer. Definitely get experimenting – I think you will come up with an amazing combination!
