PlantWarrior Superfood Protein Review

CONFESSION – I get super excited to try every new protein powder and I just can’t help but buy / accept one for review even thought my cupboard is already over flowing! So naturally , when PlantWarrior asked me to review their 100% vegan and gluten-free chocolate flavoured Superfood Protein Powder, I said YES! This is a sponsored post, but the views are my own.

Do what did I think about it?

Review: PlantWarrior Superfood Protein Powder

Nutrition

One of the first things that I check when buying a new protein powder is the nutritional information. I prefer protein powders that contain over 15g of vegan protein per serving and that don’t contain any artifical flavourings or sweeteners. PlantWarrior Superfood Protein ticks those boxes.
PlantWarrior is a blend of 5 natural and high protein foods (Rice, Quinoa, Pea, Chia and Hemp), giving it 18g of protein per 25g serving. The unusual blend of ingredients means that, unlike many vegan protein powders on the market, PlantWarrior has all 9 essential amino acids that your body needs to function! It is also gluten and dairy free, with under 100 calories per serving. The product is totally natural and sweetened with stevia – a zero caloriezero GI sweetener, which is 300 times sweeter than sugar.
If you take a look at the ingredients list you will also notice the addition of guar fibre. If you’re not quite sure what that is then don’t worry. I wasn’t sure either so I asked David from PlantWarrior. He said “Guar Gum it is a natural thickener (made from Guar Beans) to help the protein form a nice smooth texture when added with water or milk. Without it, protein powders can be quite dry and grainy when used in shakes. It is a premium [natural] ingredient … We try to make the best product possible over here :)”

Taste

Overall I enjoyed the taste of the chocolate flavoured PlantWarrior Superfood Protein Powder. It was sweet, but not too sweet, and the taste of the different types of protein powders wasn’t too overpowering. Although, I would have preferred it to be a stronger chocolate taste –  when I buy something chocolate flavoured I want it ‘double-chocolate-brownie’ level of flavour rather than a more subtle taste! Surprisingly it did taste nice when I mixed a scoop with just water though!

Texture

Vegan protein powder is often criticised for having a grainy texture. I was really pleased with how finely ground the PlantWarrior protein is and how well it mixed into just water.  That said, if you make it into a protein shake using just water / plant milk you will need to drink it immediately otherwise the protein powder will start to sink to the bottom.
Price
PlantWarrior Superfood Protein is currently selling at £24.99 for 500 grams with free shipping in the UK. I’d say that is slightly more than most of the vegan protein blends on the market, but I think that you get what you pay for. This is a good quality product with premium ingredients so you would expect to pay a bit more.
AND
For every bag sold PlantWarrior will arrange to plant 1 tree!!

One small negative…

I dislike the smell of the PlantWarrior Protein blend. Luckily the smell isn’t noticeable when it’s blended into a smoothie or mixed into oats. I’m not sure what in particular I don’t like, perhaps the hemp protein – I once had a bag of white hemp protein from another company and I hated the smell so much I ended up throwing it away. I asked my friend @charlotteemmma and she said “I didn’t find it too offensive. I remember thinking it didn’t smell of much”.
Creamy and delicious vegan chocolate proats recipe. It's high protein, healthy and great fuel for the day.

Hi Melanie.. Worth a try if you’re after a more natural protein powder that don’t taste like dirty!!

Never heard of this product,do they sell it in the United States?

    • September 11, 2017 / 11:29 pm

I think they are just based in the UK at the moment, but I bet they would ship to the US

I’ve never heard of this brand. I only use plant based protein and always Skoop. Is Plant Warrior in stores or online only?

    • September 11, 2017 / 11:31 pm

I haven’t seen Skoop for the sale in the UK but it looks like a brilliant range! I think that PlantWarrior is only available online at the moment. They are a fairly new company.

I have to admit I’ve never heard of this before but it definitely sounds like an interesting way to get more protein into your diet.

Hi Sarah 🙂 It’s a new brand, so they are looking to work with bloggers to get themselves out there. Chocolate flavoured protein powder is certainly a yummy way to boost your protein!

I’ve never actually tried any vegan proteins before. I’ve always been intrigued though! this doesn’t sound too bad and like you, I prefer that double chocolate brownie taste haha

    • September 11, 2017 / 11:34 pm

I think it’s a good idea to go to a healthy food show and try different brands of vegan protein before you buy one – some of them can be a bit yucky!

  6. September 9, 2017 / 6:29 pm

Ive not heard of them before but I’m the same with Hemp proteins too. Linwoods do a blend that I’m fine with but they have 3 blends that I can’t stand. any other hemps I run a mile from but it’d be interesting to try this brand (since they’re new to me!)

    • September 11, 2017 / 11:36 pm

It’s that funny about the hemp protein. I have tried the Linwoods one and been okay with it luckily. I just never use it very much because it’s so green – it makes your food turn a weird colour unless it’s going to be green anyway!!

What I love about the product is that it is gluten free and vegan. I am glad that nowadays there are so many innovations in terms of product food offerings.

    • September 11, 2017 / 11:36 pm

Thankyou so much for your lovely comment. I’m really grateful for the wonderful range of food products we have available now as well.

I’ve never tried a protein powder, but if I did it would definitely be a chocolate one! X

    • September 11, 2017 / 11:37 pm

I didn’t have protein powder for ages, but now I have started I just can’t stop buying them! Vanilla flavour is usually really nice as well and it is more versatile.

  9. September 9, 2017 / 9:30 pm

We’ve never used Protein powder but think the sound that it is under 100 calories, thick and flavoursome

  10. September 10, 2017 / 10:42 am

I’m always looking for new protein powders and you totally had me sold until I read that it’s sweetened with stevia. Blergh – I know it’s all natural but to me stevia just tastes like a chemical sweetener and so I try and avoid it. Do they have any non-sweetened varieties?

    • September 11, 2017 / 11:39 pm

Yeah- I get your point about stevia. I used to really HATE it, but now I think I have gotten used to it. At the moment they only sell one variety, which is sweetened.

I’ve not heard of PlantWarrior before… I have a colleague who uses protein powder all the time, so I’ll let them know about it.

    • September 11, 2017 / 11:40 pm

Hahaha, I think they can be quite addictive! Or you just get into the habit of using them very frequently.

  12. September 10, 2017 / 11:37 pm

Shame about the smell but it is great that you found the protein powder was good overall. X

  13. September 11, 2017 / 1:45 pm

Not something I generally use, but I have been doing more exercise than usual recently, so upping my nutrition game might be in order!

  14. September 11, 2017 / 10:09 pm

I really like the sound of this protein powder!

  15. September 12, 2017 / 7:37 pm

I haven’t had protein in ages, but since changing my diet to Vegan I am looking for different bits and bobs to go alongside and will check this out.
