How many times have you turned to food to deal with your emotions?
I can’t even count the number on all of my fingers and toes.
Emotional eating and binge eating was a daily ritual for me – every morning I would promise myself that I would eat well that day, but after dinner I just couldn’t help but start to snack and be helpless to stop – whole boxes of cereal, tubs of yogurt and chocolate bars gone in one evening! I now know that I was using food to try and control how I felt, but food could never satisfy me because it wasn’t dealing with the real issues that were causing me to eat.
If you have ever googled ‘am I an emotional eater’ or ‘what is emotional eating’, then it’s likely that you’re struggling with how to overcome emotional eating. It’s also likely that you have come across countless articles telling you to simply ‘call a friend’, ‘read a book’ or ‘go for a walk’ to help you feel better. Although these articles are well intentioned by the author, I have found them to be totally useless; in the heat of the moment when you can’t stand feeling so stressed, upset or lonely any longer, following someone’s advice to go for a walk just isn’t going to cut it and you are compelled to down a pint of ice cream or sharing size bag of crisps because it seems like the only way to feel anything like happier.
I totally get it. I’ve been there – it’s beyond frustrating that you can’t seem to control what you eat, totally isolating because no one seems to get it when you try and explain your situation, and leaves you feeling guilty and hopeless that things will ever change.
But I want to reassure you that it is possible to stop emotional eating for good.
It is possible to be satisfied by one piece of cake, to stop being worried that someone will find your stash of food wrappers, and to not even have a stash of wrappers at all!!

I draw on evidence-based techniques and my past struggles with orthorexia and binge-eating to help clients to understand themselves better and to recommend personalised strategies to enable them to live the healthy lifestyle that they dream of.
OVERCOME EMOTIONAL EATING WORKSHOP
I’m so thrilled to announce the first workshop that I will be running with Rachael Smith Yoga.
The workshop aims to help you improve your relationship with food and stop emotional eating from controlling your life and your happiness.
45 minute interactive psychology workshop with supporting e-book (run by me – re:Wellbeing).
By the end of the session you will
- Be clear about what emotional eating is
- Understand why you turn to food to deal with your emotions
- Have actionable strategies to stop the urge to eat
- Know how to respond when a craving strikes
60 minute yoga practice (run by Rachael Smith Yoga)
- Suitable for complete beginners or those who have been practicing yoga for a while.
- We will be learning a simple Sadhana practice, (an easy but effective daily yoga ritual)
- The routine will be simple, involving both movement and breathing techniques. And should take no longer than 20 minutes per day.
- It will help you to confirm and keep your daily intentions, feel calmer and freer in both your body and mind.
- You will be guided and encouraged to continue the practice for 21 days following on from the workshop via the private facebook group.

The Overcome Emotional Eating Workshop + Yoga will be held on 19th August, 1-3pm, Instinctive Health, Sheffield.

You are welcome to attend the session even if you are not fully committed to doing the yoga practice for 21 days afterwards. The workshop will still be incredibly beneficial to help you understand your emotions, eating behaviour and how you can change it.
Likewise if you don’t feel like you have to overcome emotional eating, but you have another habit that you are trying to change and would like to be involved in the facebook support group and yoga challenge you are welcome to attend the session.
