Last week I made some delicious oats, which tasted just like warm gooey chocolate brownie batter. To say they were amazing and super satisfying is an understatement. I uploaded the picture to instagram and you asked for the recipe. So here it is!
Like all of my recipes it’s refined sugar free and full of goodness.
I’ve used the banana trick to give it a delicious sweetness and thick creamy texture. The cacao powder adds a rich chocolatey flavour and mood-boosting antioxidants. Also hidden in the mix is beetroot! Yep, you read that correctly. Beetroot gives it more depth of flavour and I especially like it because it has so many wonderful health benefits. For example, beetroot can improve blood flow, lower blood pressure and increase stamina. It’s also packed with vitamins and minerals.
The taste of beetroot isn’t over powering so even if you’re not the biggest fan I’d still recommend you give this a go. If you can’t finish the whole pack of beetroots you can always freeze them ready for next time you want to make this recipe.

Beetroot brownie batter oatmeal recipe
- 1 small cooked beetroot
- 3/4 large ripe banana
- 1 tbsp cacao powder
- 3/4 cup water or coconut water
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 tsp coconut sugar (optional*)
- 1/4 large banana
- Strawberry & pomegranate arils
(1/2 cup total = 1 more of your 5 a day)
- Blend together 3/4 of the banana, the beetroot, cacao powder and water.
- Add the oats to a pan and then the contents of the blender.
- Cook on a medium heat for about 3 minutes until the oats have absorbed all of the water.
- When it’s a super gooey texture transfer it to a bowl and add your toppings.
*If your banana isn’t very ripe you might want to add some coconut sugar to sweeten up the oats. I’d make it first, have a taste and then stir in some sugar at the end if you need it.
