Try these chocolate protein balls to power you through Christmas shopping or a marathon cooking sessions this festive season.

Chocolate protein balls with christmas spices

This recipe is sponsored by That Protein, who also sponsored the Best Vegan Blog Award, which I won at the Health Blog Awards back in September. The founder of That Protein, Darlene, asked me to make a recipe that showcased the Blissful Brown Rice and Raw Cacao Super Protein powder, but that was easy to make and only used a few ingredients. I think that I have hit the mark with these chocolate Christmas protein (snow)balls… although they look less snowy than I would have liked- the coconut flakes didn’t want to stick.

All the equipment that you will need for this recipe is a mixing bowl, spoon and space in the fridge to store them. There’s no blender required to make these protein balls, unlike most other recipes.  Also, they are fairly low sugar since I have used apple sauce as the main sweetener, with only half a table spoon of maple syrup to add extra sweetness and to get the perfect texture.

Low Sugar Christmas Spice Protein Ball Recipe

Ingredients
Serves 8
<1 of your 5-a-day

  • 50g Blissful Brown Rice & Raw Cacao Super Protein
  • 25g coconut oil (melted)
  • 90g unsweetened apple sauce
  • ½ tbsp maple syrup
  • A sprinkle of your favourite Christmas spices such as cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg
  • 50g unsweetened desiccated coconut

Method

  1. Mix together the protein powder, spices and coconut oil.
  2. Add in the apple sauce and maple syrup and stir in until a smooth dough has formed. Taste a bit of the dough and add in extra spices if you want to.
  3. Sprinkle the coconut onto a large plate.
  4. Separate the dough into 8 pieces. Wet your hands and roll each piece into a ball. Then roll each ball in coconut to coat the outside.
  5. Store in the fridge until you’re ready to eat them.

It’s that easy!

What’s your go-to snack at Christmas?
