This yummy chocolate strawberry smoothie recipe is perfect for when you need a little pick me up. It’s got mood boosting cacao powder and banana as well as strawberry and spinach which are full of antioxidants. Plus it tastes good – I love the subtle strawberry and chocolate notes!
And I also happen to think it looks good.
A few of you have said your smoothies with spinach in end up looking a horrible sludgy colour. First, there’s nothing wrong with that if it still tastes nice. But, second, if you did want an insta-worthy breakfast bowl then use this tip.
How to make a smoothie with spinach look good
Add more cacao powder!!
I tend to start off with 1 table spoon and keep adding until it turns a nice brown colour. For this smoothie it took 3 spoons because I put a lot of spinach in!! I don’t worry about adding extra cacao because it has lots of health benefits (read my fellow health blogger Laura’s fab post about it here). And also life’s too short not to enjoy a healthier chocolate milkshake.

Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie – vegan, gluten-free, paleo
- 2-3 heaped tbsp cacao powder
- 3 strawberries
- 2 – 3 handfuls of spinach
- ½ cup rice milk
– 1/2 cup mixed berries & cherries
– sprinkle of granola
- Blend all of the ingredients together, then transfer to a bowl and add your desired toppings.
Did you know…
You don’t have to remove the green tops from the strawberry before adding them to your smoothie! I like to keep the tops on to get extra greens in my diet (even if it’s only a tiny bit). To be honest, I’ve even started to eat the tops of fresh strawberries – I can’t really taste it anymore, especially if they’re small berries.
